The People Behind Gas Scooters On The Web

Don't think you can afford one of these scooters?

Think Again!  Here is how I did it......

www.gas-scooters-on-the-web.com was formed in late 2003 when I was attempting to purchase a gas scooter to replace an aging electric scooter purchased some years ago.

I quickly realized that although there are literally thousands of sites that sell gas powered scooters, there were not any (that I could find!) that provided an easy method to compare features and options to aid the buying decision. After building a lengthy spreadsheet just to enter all the combinations, it struck me that other gas scooter enthusiasts might welcome a site that let you very quickly make visual comparisons of 30+ different models as well as being able to compare the many scooters features very easily.

I also wanted a means to let me buy different models of new scooters as they came up and continue upgrading my fleet.  When researching the various scooter suppliers, I discovered the world of gas scooter affiliates.  Thus www.gas-scooters-on-the-web.com was formed.

I  found five vendors that had products that not only met my needs but were fairly priced and offered superior follow up service.  Their products are what you see featured on this site.  In exchange for reviewing and promoting their products I am rewarded with a  percentage of each sale that a person might make who visits my site first and follows my links to one of the five vendors featured here.

In other words, for reviewing gas scooters, for writing about them and for promoting gas powered scooters on this web-site, I make enough to buy gas scooters.  Imagine having an online business that pays for your hobby, pays for your transportation and still provides a hefty profit.  These same five vendors will send YOU checks in the mail just like they do for me if you put just a bit of effort into building a website that features their products.  Sound hard?  Not if you do it the way I did....

Still Interested?  Here is the path I followed to make this site a reality:

  • First I invested $49 in an E-Book by Rosalind Gardner called The Super Affiliate Handbook    I bought this after reading a short interview with Rosalind in the San Francisco Chronicle.  Her previous career was an air traffic controller, and she now makes over $400K in her words "selling other people's stuff".  Highly recommended.  Takes you from not having a clue what you want to represent on your site, through optimizing your site to maximize profits.  I still refer to my copy daily.

  • Next on my list was the complete Insider Secrets to Marketing Your Business on the Internet course by Corey Rudl. Corey got his start to running an online internet business by selling a book on how to buy cars at rock bottom prices.  His current online sales exceed $7M.  This course (CD's and printed) takes me to the next step beyond where Rosalind leaves off.  I appreciated his no-hype writing style, seemingly endless willingness to answer your questions, and examples of where he failed miserably and the lessons learned.  Corey has all sorts of special pricing, so check the link for the current price.  If you have a website, set yourself up as an affiliate with him and save $65.00.  Takes about 3 minutes.

  • Finally, you need a domain to put your new site on.  If you are a newbie and don't know a whole lot about building web-sites, take the path I did and sign up with Site Build It!  This is a great method to get your site built quickly, get content on the web, and most importantly get your site optimized so the search engines find it quickly.  As you work with the Site Build It! system, you will learn how to upload your own web pages that you build in FrontPage (my site has a mix of pages done in Site Build It! and pages that I built myself.  Using the Site Build It! system I built my entire site in a marathon session over Thanksgiving of 2003 and made it to the top 2% of all Alexa ranked sites by January.  I am already listed in google in at the top 30 for at least 5 of my pages.

  • If you already know how to program in HTML and have a reasonable handle on how to optimize your site so that the search engines find you, then I highly recommend iPowerWeb as a web host.  They only charge $7.50 per month, have great add-ons that make checking your statistics a breeze.  My wife has her site www.alternativehealthforall.com (almost done!) with them.

In addition to being an avid scooter enthusiast, I am an accomplished juggler and uni-cyclist.  I recently relocated to California with my wife and two boys from Houston, TX and love it here, as do our two Welsh Pembroke Corgis.  My wife is a Master Herbalist and holds a Dr. of Naturopathy as well as being a certified Feng Shui Practitioner.  Many of our weekends are spent performing Feng Shui consultations for commercial and residential buildings.  Check out www.alternativehealthforall.com for more on her business.  She has a ton of information there, and more to follow to put in some of those links I need to work on!

My goal is to eventually capture the maintenance histories of a large fleet of gas scooters through this web-site and then be able to report on maintainability by model, like the popular magazine Consumer Reports does.

I hope you enjoy the site, and find a gas scooter that meets your needs. Feel free to leave me a comment below as to what you liked and what you would like to see!
